A custom watch gives a builder far more freedom than a single predetermined factory configuration.

A Seiko mod is a customized or independently assembled watch created using compatible watch components and, in many builds, an automatic movement from the Seiko NH family.

Instead of being limited to one standard watch design, a builder can combine different cases, dials, hands, bezels, crystals, bracelets and movements to create a watch with its own appearance and functionality.

The word "mod" originally referred to modifying an existing watch. Over time, the term became commonly used throughout the custom watch community for watches assembled from compatible components around movements such as the NH35, NH34, NH36 and NH38.

That flexibility allows a custom build to become an everyday automatic watch, GMT, chronograph, day-date watch, dive-inspired design, dress watch or something completely personal.
