Setting & Care

Owners guide

BUILT TO BE WORN

A simple guide to powering your watch, setting the calendar, and keeping everything running the way it should.

Quick rule: avoid changing the day or date between about 9 PM and 3 AM. If anything feels tight, stop and reach out.

Automatic movements

Covers NH34, NH35, NH36, NH38, NH70, NH71, NH72, and Miyota 8285.

Wear it for a few minutes to get it moving, or hand-wind it. With the crown pushed in, turn it clockwise 20 to 30 times until it starts running.

VK63 hybrid chronograph

Quartz-powered timekeeping with a mechanical-style chronograph feel.

If the seconds hand stops, the battery likely needs replacement. If chronograph hands don't return to zero, they may need re-centering.

  1. 1.
Unlock the crown: if your mod has a screw-down crown, gently turn it counter-clockwise until it releases.
  2. 2.
Set the date: pull the crown to the first click. Turn the crown counter-clockwise (toward you) to advance the date.
  3. 3.
Crucial: do not set the date between about 9 PM and 3 AM.
  4. 4.
Easy workaround: set the time to 6:00 (AM or PM), set the date, then set the correct time.
  5. 5.
Set the time: pull to the second click (seconds hand may stop). Rotate to set the correct time.
  6. 6.
Confirm AM or PM: move the hands past 12:00. If the date changes, you just passed midnight.
  7. 7.
Secure the crown: push in fully, and if screw-down, screw it down clockwise until snug.
  1. 1.
Unlock the crown: if applicable, gently unscrew counter-clockwise until it releases.
  2. 2.
First click (day and date): pull to the first click.
    • • Counter-clockwise (toward you) advances the date
    • • Clockwise (away from you) advances the day
    • • Set the date to the day before the actual date (example: if today is the 18th, set to the 17th).
  3. 3.
Second click (time): pull to the second click and move the hands forward past 12:00 AM. The day/date should flip to the correct values.
  4. 4.
Final step: set the current time, then secure the crown (push in fully, and screw down if applicable).

All our watches come with standard-length bracelets that fit most wrist sizes. If you need to adjust the fit, here's what you need to know:

Tools you'll need

  • • Pin pusher (for push pins) or the small screwdriver provided (for screws)
  • • Soft cloth to protect the watch case

Adjusting links

Bracelets may use either push pins or screws, depending on the build:

  1. 1.
Lay the watch on a soft cloth, face down.
  2. 2.
Identify the links you want to remove, then support the bracelet so it stays flat.
  3. 3.
Push pins: use a pin pusher to press the pin out from one side of the link, then pull it the rest of the way out.
Screws: use the small screwdriver provided to carefully unscrew the link and remove it.
  4. 4.
Remove or add links as needed to get the fit right.
  5. 5.
Reinstall pins or screws securely, and double check everything is seated and snug.

Getting the right fit

Your watch should sit comfortably on your wrist with enough room to slide one finger between the bracelet and your skin. It shouldn't slide more than an inch up or down your wrist when you move your arm.

Pro tip: Keep removed links in a safe place. Wrist sizes can change with temperature, activity, and time of day.

Screw concerns? If you ever have issues with screws coming loose, you can use a tiny amount of thread locker made for watches like Loctite 222. Apply only after the bracelet is properly sized.

Water resistance

All Badger Mods watches are rated for 3 ATM (splash resistant). This means:

  • • Suitable for everyday wear and can handle rain or hand washing
  • • Not suitable for swimming, showering, or water sports
  • • Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in (or screwed down) to maintain water resistance
  • • Never operate the crown while the watch is wet
  • • If accidentally submerged, dry immediately and have it checked by a professional

Avoiding damage

  • • Remove your watch before high-impact activities or contact sports
  • • Keep away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, magnetic clasps, etc.)
  • • Avoid extreme temperature changes
  • • Don't expose to chemicals (solvents, cleaning products, perfumes)

Storage tips

When not wearing your watch, store it in a dedicated watch box or watch roll. This protects it from dust, moisture, and accidental impacts.

Crystal care

While highly durable, crystals can still chip or crack from severe impacts. Clean with a microfiber cloth and avoid abrasive materials.

Additional guidance

Breaking in your watch

New automatic movements may need 24-48 hours of wear to settle and achieve optimal accuracy. This is completely normal.

Power reserve

Most automatic movements have a 40-hour power reserve. If your watch stops, simply wind it or wear it to restart.

Accuracy expectations

Mechanical movements typically run +/- 10-30 seconds per day. Position, temperature, and wear patterns all affect accuracy.
